Mailing Lists
If you ever have a problem or a question regarding TTDPatch, please consider
subscribing to the mailing list and asking there. Not only is it much more likely
that you'll get an answer (because more people are reading the list), it will also be
quicker. I'm also reading the list, so you can't lose.
You can use the up arrows

to get back to the top of this page.
How do they work?
If you're not familiar with mailing lists in general, here is a short introduction:
- You subscribe to the list
- Now whenever somebody posts an email to the list, you get a copy of the
email
- You can also post to the list, and everybody else who's subscribed gets a
copy
First, you need to subscribe to the list, which is explained in the next section.
Once you are a subscriber, all messages sent to the lists will be forwarded to your
regular email. You can then simply send an email to the list at
ttdpatch@ttdpatch.net, which will be forwarded to all the subscribers,
including yourself.
You don't have to subscribe if you just want to read the
archives, though.
Subscribing
There are three mailing lists about TTDPatch:
- Announcements, ttdpatch-announce list
- All announcements about new versions of TTDPatch or
related utilities will be posted to this moderated list. Note that announcements
are also posted to all other lists, but this list is exclusively for announcements. Very
low traffic, a message every few months.
- Discussions, ttdpatch list
- This list is for discussion of any topic related to TTDPatch, for example discussing
new features, asking for help or general questions. Lots of traffic, on average between
10 and 20 messages per day.
- Digests, ttdpatch-digest list
- Sign up for the digest list if you want all messages from the announcements and discussion lists batched
together in digests.
A digest is sent out when enough messages have accumulated, but at least once every three
days.
Because all announcements are also copied to the general list (and thus will appear
in the digests too), you only need to subscribe to one of these lists.
For your convenience, the following links automate these steps, if your browser
understands them:
These links should open your email program, with the appropriate commands in the
body, and all you have to do is send the email.
If it doesn't work, you can sign up manually, by sending an email to
Majordomo@ttdpatch.net and have the following lines in the body
of the message. The subject can be anything you like and will be ignored:
subscribe <list>
end
where you substitute the list name (ttdpatch, ttdpatch-digest or ttdpatch-announce)
in place of
<list>.
All lists are automated, so all subscriptions and requests will be handled
by the list server, and I will only be involved if something goes wrong. You should
receive and confirmation a few minutes after subscribing, but it may sometimes take a
day to arrive. If you haven't received your confirmation within a day or two, it
might be good to contact me personally and I'll see what went wrong.
Submitting
Once you are a subscriber, you can send email to the list at
ttdpatch@ttdpatch.net. Note that the
ttdpatch-announce@ttdpatch.net is
moderated to keep it low-volume and to ensure that all messages are indeed
announcements. If you have any questions regarding this, please feel free to
ask me.
Please respect the acceptable use policy whenever you send
something to the list.
There is also a help text available, which gives more details on all the advanced
commands available in the Majordomo mailing list program, which you can order with
the command
help
end
sent to
Majordomo@ttdpatch.net, or click
here to do this automatically.
Multiple Email Addresses
This section is for those of you that have several email addresses. The problem in
this case is that you can only contribute to the list if you are a subscriber, so you
would need to subscribe all these addresses to be able to post from them.
However, that would mean that you also get multiple copies of each list email, a
duplicate to each of the accounts.
If you don't want this, the solution is the special "ttdpatch-sendonly" list.
Simply subscribe all your email accounts to this list, and they will be able to post
to the ttdpatch list. Note that you don't post to the ttdpatch-sendonly list itself,
it only gives you permission to post on the regular ttdpatch list.
To subscribe, you send another message to Majordomo@ttdpatch.net, with the
body of the message containing this:
subscribe ttdpatch-sendonly your.first@email.com
subscribe ttdpatch-sendonly another@address.net
subscribe ttdpatch-sendonly and.yet@one.more.org
Of course you'll have to supply your actual email addresses instead of the examples
given above.
Unsubscribing
If you find that you no longer want to receive email from the lists, send an email to
Majordomo@ttdpatch.net with the following lines in the body:
unsubscribe *
or click
here and press the send
button. Replace the asterisk with a list name if you want to unsubscribe from only
one list, not all.
Archives
Both lists are archived, with the archives being sorted by month.
Privacy Policy
Your email address will
not be sold or disclosed to anybody, not even
somebody on the list unless you send a message to the list. The mailing list is run
on my own private computer, because I generally do not trust companies with my email,
but I've had enough problems with spam on my own, so I'm not going to do anything
with your email address except to forward all list emails, the normal function of a
mailing list.
All list email will be sent to the email address that you sent the subscription
to. If you want to receive the mails on another account as well you have to send the
subscription emails from that one too.
The list and my email server are spam protected, and because only subscribers can
send email to the list, it is very unlikely that spam is sent to the list itself.
Acceptable Use Policy
The mailing lists are intended to facilitate discussion between TTDPatch users, and
to answer questions or concerns anybody may have with the program. Note that the
ttdpatch-announce list is moderated by myself in order to ensure that it only
contains actual announcements.
Appropriate messages in the ttdpatch list include
- Questions, suggestions, comments on TTDPatch and related tools
- General discussion relating to TTDPatch
- Bug reports, or other problems
- Discussing topics of interest to TTDPatch users
Inappropriate messages include:
- Spam, commercial messages that aren't of considerable interest to the TTDPatch
community, or repeatedly posting the same or very similar messages
- Abuse, including rude or vulgar language
- Binaries, that is attachments containing programs or savegames, even if they
are about TTDPatch. This is to protect everybody from viruses and other annoyances.
If you want to share a file or program, ask who wants to have it and send it to
each person in private email. As an alternative you could put it on a website
(there are many free web services), and advertise the URL.
If you have any questions about this, please ask me or send a message to the list
where we can discuss it. I would take any opportunity to improve the mailing lists,
so if you have suggestions, please put them forward!
