Need more help with TTDPatch?

Here are some pointers that should get you started:
  • FAQ: Frequently asked questions. See if they answer your question.
  • Mailing list: If the FAQ or the manual don't answer your questions, you can post to the mailing list.
  • Official TTDPatch forum: You can ask your question on the official TTDPatch forum.
  • Newsgroup: If you have access to Usenet, ask your question on the TT newsgroup.
...and if all else fails, you can of course send an email to the author. Note that I am pretty busy these days, so that is definitely not the fastest way to get an answer. I do answer all the email I get, though it may take a week or two till I can find the time.

When emailing me, please always state the following information:

  • What version of TTD do you have? DOS or Windows? What is the filesize of your ttdx.exe, tycoon.exe or gamegfx.exe file?
  • What is your operating system? DOS, Windows 95/98, Windows ME, Windows 2000, XP?
The more information you give me about your problem, the easier it will be for me to help you.

[up] How to upgrade

Basically you download the new patch, and replace the old one by unzipping it. After running it for the first time, you may be asked to delete TTDLOAD.OVL because it is outdated. This is safe to do, and it will be replaced automatically when you run TTDPatch the next time. Just make sure that you delete the right file!

In order to get the most out of your new version, you'll also want to enable the new switches. For that, you need to get them into your ttdpatch.cfg file, and here's how that works. You simply run TTDPatch with the following command line:

ttdpatch -W ttdpatch.cfg
This will take your old settings, and write those along with the new ones back into ttdpatch.cfg so that you can edit them.

[up] Using TTDPatch

  • Unzip the ZIP files you've downloaded, into your TTD directory
  • Run ttdpatch.exe (DOS) or ttdpatchW.exe (Windows)
  • Enjoy!
To select which patches you want, simply edit ttdpatch.cfgthat file with the text editor of your choice (e.g. notepad).

TTDPatch will copy your original executable file to TTDLOAD(W).OVL, patch this file and execute it. This means that it won't modify any of TTD's files, only a copy of the executable is patched.

Also note that this patch is neither made nor endorsed by Microprose, so please don't try to contact them about problems with this patch. On the other hand, please don't hesitate to contact me instead. I love feedback.
